This service is for low to moderate income individuals and seniors in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. All services are free. See below for more information on our tax services. (Prior Year returns (2020-2022) can only be done through the Drop-Off Process)

TWO OPTIONS FOR RETURN PREPARATION

VIRTUAL TAX PREPARATION ONLINE (by appointment)

WITH A REMOTE COACH

 

This process lets you prepare your 2023 tax return in the comfort of your home online using your computer and guided by a certified tax volunteer. Maximum Income limit is $73,000. (Virtual process does not allow prior year returns.)

 

Virtual Tax Procedures (READ THIS FIRST)

  1. Organize all of your tax Documents (Open all envelopes)
  2. Complete the Online Intake Form  ——>
  3. Make your Online appointment     ——->
  4. Receive your Appointment confirmation the day before your appointment
  5. Participate in your telephone interview the day before your appointment (Make sure that you answer your phone)
  6. On your appointment day and time, JOIN THE MEETING as noted on your confirmation

Bring the following items to your dropoff appointment:

  • Photo ID for self and spouse
  • Original Social Security cards or ITIN letters required for self, spouse, and all dependents. No photocopies.
  • Social Security Number of spouse, if married filing separately
  • Birth dates of dependents
  • Wage and earning statements (W-2, 1099R, Social Security, etc.)
  • Unemployment statement (1099G)
  • Bank interest statements
  • If insurance was purchased through the marketplace (www.Healthcare.gov) or State Marketplace, bring from 1095A
  • Bank check for direct deposit information
  • Last year’s tax returns, if available
  • All other tax documents

 

 The Drop-Off Program supports low-moderate-income taxpayers and seniors. The Drop-Off process allows you to by appointment, bring in your tax materials, participate in an intake interview, and drop off your documents.  You will be scheduled to return in a week to pick up and review your completed return. 

DROP-OFF FILING LIMITATIONS

We do not prepare returns with the following:

  • Business returns with expenses over $35,000 or a net loss
  • Extensive or complex stock transactions
  • Rental property
  • Moving expenses
  • Purchase or sale of home
  • Office in home (Except for simplified format)
  • Nonresident/foreign student (1040NR)

Drop-Off Tax Process:

Tax preparation is by appointment only, no walk-ins.

Taxpayers should arrive at their scheduled time; complete all intake documents; and participate in a dropoff interview session.   (Save time by completing  and printing the intake form prior to coming to the dropoff site.)  Use this link to access the intake form)

Taxpayers will dropoff required documents and be scheduled to pick up their completed returns the following week.
